Chuca Garcia lives in El Paso Texas. The story starts with Chuca in grade 6th grade. His father Pancho plays favoritism on his older son Nacho and youngest daughter Betsy and tears down Chuca’s self esteem for his school performance. Chuca learns from a neighbor that we can’t change others but ourselves. The man tells him to dare to dream to be the best he can be. Chuca discovers his athletic ability and gains a new sense of confidence and hope. In the eighth grade Chuca meets beautiful Olympia, a startling cheer leader. Chuca learns lesson after lesson and grows with each one every time. A street brawl leads him to a boxing gym where he teaches two boxers a humbling lesson. He goes on to fight at El Paso’s’ ghetto, El Segundo Barrio- and shows his father what a man he really is. This book will keep you wanting to read more and more. It will teach you to risk and strong character. You will enjoy this novel.
